Didache for 12B

From the earliest surviving records of the liturgy of the early Christian church, the Didache, 


"We thank Thee, our Father, for the life and knowledge which Thou madest known to us through Jesus Thy Servant; to Thee be the glory for ever. Even as this broken bread was scattered over the hills, and was gathered together and became one, so let Thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth into Thy kingdom; for Thine is the glory and the power through Jesus Christ for ever..."


Which leads me to thinking

Of course, that bit didn't make the cut for tomorrow's sermon.  



Something that Hurts my Heart

When straight folk (good, loving, kind ones) say that they are for "gay marriage" because they want gay folks to be able to have the same loving, committed, stable relationships that straight people have.

Gay folk ALREADY have loving, committed, stable relationships...

we just don't have any legal rights or protections.

A Busy Sermon, Proper 11B

A few weeks ago I read an op-ed in the New York Times entitled “The Busy Trap” by Tim Kreider.  In it, he laments of our tendency towards “self-imposed busyness”, his words struck me, largely because of my own use of the phrase “Crazy busy”In college we all had those dry erase boards on our dorm room doors.  And, when anyone was working on a paper they would draw the number of required pages for their paper--represented by an empty square--and as they wrote they would color in those squares.  In this way, we knew, how very, very busy the occupant of that particular room was.  And, the conversations would go, like so"(heavy sigh) I have to write a 20 page paper by tomorrow and I'm only on page 3...I'll be up all night""(nod of empathy) yeah, I know!  I have a lighting design project due tomorrow and 2, 5 page papers!""(another nod...) I was at the lab until 3am last night...I had to have security give me a ride back to th…
